I believe in having an open, honest, and sometimes candid conversation with each other. Be present and authentic and you'll find that you are having a meaningful exchange. I have always found that in every conversation there is a "me too moment."  When both of you find that you share a  similar experience or background. It could be something very small, but have a huge impact on how we communicate with one another. Every connection can make the difference in building a willingness to work together in the areas where we may have vast differences.

I love talking to people because I love understanding different points of view. The more perspectives you have on any issue will always give you a deeper insight into problem-solving it.

Mental health is about finding solutions to what impedes your growth as a individual and as a community. We can thread this model into all of our systems that govern us. Our Personal lives, our work enviornement,

I am proud of what we were able to accomplish.

Sandragrace Martinez is a political figure and community advocate living in San Antonio Texas. She ran a grassroots campaign effort running for State Office as Commissioner of the Texas General Land Office in 2022, which carried her into a runoff election with a percentage lead over her opponent.

Her opponent, a descendant from old Texas money with access to capital and funding that would garner the support of almost every Democratic organization and endorsement group in Texas, as well as endorsements from leaders at the national level, and the overwhelming support of every major newspaper in the State of Texas, with a campaign expenditure amount reaching $3,309,259.00, that would help in making him the most endorsed candidate in the history of Texas politics.

In stark contrast, the Martinez campaign spent just above six- thousand dollars and narrowly lost the runoff election by a slim margin of 5%.

Her response to the loss only sees the positive side. My opponent received 52% of the votes while we received 47% of the votes. I look at that 5% gap as an indicator of just how close we are to something special. In that election we were up against an institution of wealth, influence, and political access, and they threw the whole kitchen sink at us, and yet, only a 5% difference makes up the whole difference. I am proud of what we were able to accomplish during that whole process and we can build on that.

" System Theory has been one of the most beneficial courses I ever took during my education. It taught me how to look at systems of rules, procedures, and behaviors so that one can see where the changes, redirections, or alterations need to take place to order to get the results you're looking for. Basically, it's knowing where to throw the monkey wrench."

I am a strong believer in practicing the act of giving to society's vulnerable. As a Mental Health Clinician, I understand how trauma affects children, veterans, and those affected by the climate crisis.  In several cases, it is not just trauma but Complex Trauma defined as a type of trauma that occurs repeatedly and cumulatively, usually over a period of time and within specific relationships and contexts. My personal approach to serving the community is to promote meeting the basic needs of individuals as to lessen the contribution to trauma. Three basic rights are paramount to have at all times not just for society's vulnerable population BUT ALL TEXANS:

  • Clean Water
  • Safe Shelter
  • Healthy Food which includes LIFE SAVING MEDICATION
